Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer, Times Higher Education, commented:

¡°In higher education, reputation really matters: it helps attract inward investment; it helps draw-in quality partners for strategic advancement; and, perhaps above all else, it is key to attracting talent, among both academics and of course the many millions of prospective students who have more and more choice of where to study. It is subjective, and it is not always fair, but it has real currency with tangible effects.¡±

Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer, Times Higher Education, continued:

¡°Times Higher Education¡¯s World Reputation Rankings, a narrow subsidiary of our flagship and more comprehensive World University Rankings, has become an important and closely watched barometer of the world¡¯s top university brands ¨C an authoritative list of the most prestigious universities in the world, judged by those who know best: academics themselves.

¡°While the top of the Reputation Rankings has been remarkably stable for many years ¨C with a top six group of global ¡®super-brands¡¯ standing out above all others ¨C it is fascinating to observe trends over time. We are seeing some real rising stars emerging from these rankings, whose standing in the global academic community has been steadily rising.¡±

Mark Sudbury, Head of the World 100 Reputation Network, a group of communications chiefs at leading universities around the world, commented:

¡°This year, the results have been eagerly watched as they represent the largest ever response to Times Higher Education¡¯s?Academic Reputation Survey, with more than?29,000 published academic voters taking part ¨C up from around 11,000 in 2021.?

¡°With more than 420,204 votes cast in total, the rankings represent just the tip of a mountain of data that illuminates the way in which the academic community judges the reputation of global universities.?

¡°Institutions are increasingly interested in understanding their strength in key subject areas and regions to support their strategic development. Ï㽶ÊÓƵ can play a key supporting role through data products that bring the reputation voting patterns to life, as well as consultancy to help universities develop strategies to reach out more effectively to key audiences.¡±?

About the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings

The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings are created using the world¡¯s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey. The Academic Reputation Survey, available in 12 languages, uses United Nations data as a guide to ensure that the response coverage is as representative of world scholarship as possible. It is also evenly spread across academic disciplines. It is by far the most comprehensive academic survey underpinning university rankings across the world, with over 29,000 respondents in 2022.

The questionnaire targets only experienced, published scholars, who offer their views on excellence in research and teaching within their disciplines and at institutions with which they are familiar. The resulting data combined with our methodology allows Ï㽶ÊÓƵ to create a ranking of the world¡¯s strongest academic brands, as viewed by those who work in the field. /world-university-rankings/world-reputation-rankings-2022-methodology?
