The role

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to work part-time on a Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) funded project to map current funding in children's cancer research against the Children's Cancer Priority Setting Partnership priorities. The successful post holder will be based in the School of Health Sciences, working with Susie Aldiss and Professor Faith Gibson.

Please note that the post is a fixed-term post (up to six months, 0.5 FTE) with flexible working.

In 2019, Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) and The Little Princess Trust partnered with the James Lind Alliance on the Children’s Cancer Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) (final report available from:?https://www.cclg.org.uk/Childrens-Cancer-PSP). The aim of this PSP was to identify the research questions that need to be answered about childhood cancer, according to children, survivors, families/carers and professionals. Our focus in this current project is on the Top 23 priorities from the Children’s Cancer PSP (https://www.jla.nihr.ac.uk/priority-setting-partnerships/childrens-cancer/top-10-priorities.htm). In this project, we will undertake an information gathering exercise to establish which of the 23 priorities are currently priorities for funding and/or being funded. This will involve liaising with funders of childhood cancer research in the UK to collect their funding strategies and information on projects funded in the past five years. This will help funders to see where the gaps in funding are, avoid duplication and enable possible collaborations to ensure that all the priorities receive attention as these are the areas of research that children, survivors, families/carers and professionals have identified as important.

The successful candidate will be required to coordinate and undertake activities including liaising with research funders, leading on data collection and data management, analysis of data involving matching funding strategies and funded studies to the Top 23 priorities, dissemination of findings including report writing, preparing a journal publication and feedback to funders.

We are looking for a researcher with excellent project management and research skills, together with excellent verbal and written communication skills, who can work independently, but also work well within a team environment. ?

At the Faculty of Mathematics, Institute of Algebra, the Chair of Algebra and Discrete Structures offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting December 1, 2024. The position is limited to 3 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD). Balancing family and career is an important issue. Tasks: you contribute to the ERC Synergy Grant “POCOCOP (Polynomial-time computation: opening the black boxes in constraint problems)”. This includes the systematic exploration of polynomial-time tractability in the field of constraint satisfaction and its extensions, in particular promise CSPs, valued CSPs, and CSPs over infinite domains. The work is embedded in a larger research team and involves exchange visits with the partner universities in Prague and Vienna.

About the role

The Senior Manager Workplace Relations works under the general direction of the Director of People and Culture and provides strategic workplace relations advice in a high-performance culture through engagement across the University. This includes establishing and maintaining Faculty and Directorate relations, managing workplace relations projects, conducting high-level negotiations, oversight of complex workplace investigations, providing advice on workplace diversity initiatives, dealing with significant industrial relations matters and advising on and managing the University’s enterprise agreement processes and committees.

Requirements


	Have a recognized Master's degree in social work or counselling
	Be a Registered Social Worker or a certified Counsellor at the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association
	Minimum of 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience, including supervisory experience; or relevant experience in case and group work for social service organization or school setting in Hong Kong
	Possess good coordination, communication and interpersonal skills
	Able to work independently and as a team
	Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
	Work experience in mental health projects in Hong Kong would be an advantage

The Division of Microbial Ecology (DoME) at the Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is a creative and ambitious team that conducts internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology.
We are searching for a Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise laboratory methods for sequencing based DNA and RNA analysis and bioinformatic methods relevant to the study of microbial ecology (e.g. amplicon sequencing, metagenome and metartranscriptome analysis).

Your future tasks:

As Postdoctoral Researcher, the candidate will contribute to the human and environmental microbiome focused research at DoME. One of the main tasks will be the development of high throughput, sequencing-based quantitative microbiome profiling methods, as well as implementation and further development of Oxford Nanopore technology (ONT) based long read sequencing workflows. Furthermore, implementation and customization of bioinformatics workflows for the analysis of ONT data are expected.

The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with the team of the Joint Microbiome Facility of the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna (JMF), and support Centre-wide efforts to standardize data curation and analysis workflows. A high level of independence and the publication of the developed workflows in international peer-reviewed journals is expected.

This is part of your profile:

Successful candidates must have a doctoral degree in microbiology, bioinformatics or a related discipline, and previous experience in the analysis of microbiome data. Previous experience with ONT sequencing is preferred. Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization in R, and with using a computational cluster including job scheduling is required. A strong background in environmental microbiology, microbiome research, or microbial ecology of complex is preferred.

A track record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals in accordance with the candidates’ career stage is expected.

Very good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are mandatory and communication skills in German are preferred. The ability to work in a team is essential.
